About Old Dan

You've all seen the Dos Equis commercials with "The Most Interesting Man in the World", right? Well....that's not me. I'm just your average day-hiker.

I grew up in Florida and close to some of the nicest beaches on the planet, but the beach never really did it for me. Instead I always had a love for the scenic and ecologically diverse mountains of the eastern USA. This probably is a result of the fact that while everyone else in the USA heads south to the beach on vacation, Floridians always go north to the mountains to try to get relief from the constant tropical heat. So I credit Mom and Dad, who in the 1970's packed my brothers, sisters, friends, and I into many a motorized vehicle to head north on vacations, for my love of the mountains that will never die.

I now live in the smack in the blistering center of South Carolina. Too far inland of the famous Carolina beaches to get any cooling ocean breezes and too far southeast of the awesome Appalachians to get any high elevation relief....the midlands are one of the hottest places in the country. What's an old man to do??.....go north I say! So in May of 2008 I finally decided to take up walking and blogging for a hobby, and here I am.
